September 2012

Dear Students and Parents:

Welcome back to the 2012-2013 school year!  My name is Suzanne Cooley, and I am pleased to be returning to Hunterdon Central as Principal.

I had previously served in the District as a Vice Principal from 2001 through 2011 and, during the past school year, served as the Principal of Bernards High School in Bernardsville, NJ.  My time at Hunterdon Central has been most rewarding and has afforded me the opportunity to come into this position with a sound knowledge and understanding of our school community.  I believe this will enable me to “hit the ground running,” as we work to ensure a most positive and rewarding experience for you.

I believe very strongly in open communication among all stakeholders.  Thus, my door is always open to students and to parents, and I invite you to contact me at any time, to share your thoughts, ideas, and/or concerns.   I am confident that, through the work we do together, we will provide the best possible educational experience and ensure that our students are prepared to face the challenges of the 21st century.

While there is much about Hunterdon Central that is familiar, my role now is quite different than it was when I was here last.  As I enthusiastically embrace my new responsibilities, I will depend upon you for feedback on how we can continue to make this high school the best for our students.  I will continue to have high expectations, both behaviorally and academically, for our returning students.  As upper classmen, you are the model that our newer and younger students will want to emulate.  I encourage you to take that responsibility seriously and am confident that all of you will rise to the challenge and do your best to be positive role models for those students.

In this mailing, you will find a health services emergency card, school calendar, first day homeroom assignment, and other important information needed to begin the new school year. Please be sure to review all the contents of this mailing carefully and return required materials promptly.

Please be sure to enjoy those remaining days of summer!  I look forward to seeing you in September!

Sincerely,

Suzanne J. Cooley
Principal

October 2012

Dear Parents/Guardians:

I would like to invite interested parents/guardians to join me for a Principal's Forum, on Wednesday October 3, at 7:00 PM in the IMC.

The Principal's Forum is a new communication and outreach initiative, growing out of past years' Family School Council.  It is open to all Hunterdon Central parents and guardians.

In the Principal's Forum, I will present information and discussion sessions on topics of interest to our community, featuring key members of Hunterdon Central's staff.  Superintendent Chris Steffner and Director of Curriculum John Fenimore will be joining us for the first forum, which will include discussions on Hunterdon Central's block scheduling and Advanced Placement program.

I hope you can join us on October 3 for the first Principal's Forum.  We will be sending out communications on future meetings, and encourage you to contact me at scooley@hcrhs.k12.nj.us with ideas on issues of interest for future meetings.

Sincerely,
Suzanne J. Cooley
Principal

November 2012

The next meeting of the Principal's Forum is scheduled for Wednesday, December 5, at 7:00 PM in the IMC.

Superintendent Chris Steffner will review the new regulations that guide how teachers and administrators will be evaluated, as established by new State legislation. Since 50% of a teacher's evaluation is based on student performance, this new legislation impacts how students will be assessed.

We hope you can join us for this informative session; all interested parents/guardians are invited and encouraged to attend.

January 2013

Dear Parents,

Please know that of all the responsibilities a principal has, none is more important than the safety and well-being of our students.

I would like to invite all interested parents/guardians to attend the Principal’s Forum on January 9, at 7:00 PM in the IMC.  At that meeting, we will address our current emergency response practices and protocols, with the hope of increasing awareness and understanding for everyone.

We will continue to work diligently to assess, monitor and improve upon our practices, with regard to school security.

Sincerely,
Suzanne Cooley,
Principal
